IPAX: Contrast Metrics are not a Score

Industry tools often reduce WCAG 2 and APCA to one-way metrics (Ratio, Lc) that only go up, rewarding extreme contrast: harmful to users with light sensitivity.

The IPAX Score is an actual score that flags when contrast is too much, preventing macular glare, halation fatigue, and overstimulation.

This interactive graphic maps contrast to IPAX Scores. Choose the text and surface colors, then pick which one to vary across its full lightness range. Hover over the graphic to preview that combination, with text scaled to its APCA-recommended size.
